Hi Parents,

I’m often asked to make app recommendations for parents. I try to encourage parents to provide apps for their children that allow them a space to be creative. Below I have listed some apps that are used at school that parents might also find useful at home.

Book Creator

A simple way to create your own beautiful ebooks, right on your tablet. Ideal for children’s picture books, photo books, art books, cook books, manuals, textbooks, and the list goes on.

This app is available for Android and iOS devices.

Stop Motion Studio

This app allow your child to turn all of their toys into movies. This app makes stop motion animation easy and fun. Warning…your child may spend large amounts of time being creative.

This app is available for iOS devices. You will be able to find similar apps for Android.

Puppet Pals (recommend Director’s Pass)

Within minutes of opening this app your child will begin making their own cartoons. This app is fun to use alone or in small groups. I’d recommend getting the Director’s Pass version. For the price of a latte you’ll get a lot of extra features that will help keep this app interesting for hours upon hours.

This app is only available on iOS.

Type Drawing

Type Drawing is an app that turns your drawn lines into words. This app is a fun way to explore words, drawing and color all at the same time.

This app is only available on iOS.

Scribblenauts is the first game added to our list for a reason. This is the kind of game that you won’t feel guilty letting your child play on the tablet. Scribblenauts requires the player to use creative ideas to solve problems. Most of the problems can be solved in a variety of ways. This is a great game to sit and play with your child.

This app is available on iOS, Android and Nintendo DS.
